Appreciated Securities and Stock
Gifts of appreciated securities and stocks allow the donor to receive a tax deduction for the stock's current market value and avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation.

These kinds of charitable contributions, called Qualified Charitable Distributions (or QCDs) can be made without itemizing your taxes as long as the check is made payable to the charity directly.
