The Panama Pacific International Exposition of 1915 was a world's fair to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal, as well as, a chance to showcase San Francisco's recovery from the 1906 earthquake. Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of the 1906 earthquake, San Francisco put on a grand fair. It covered many blocks in the Marina District, from the Presidio to Fort Mason, and included the iconic Palace of Fine Arts, which you can still see today.
Women's changing role in U.S society was promoted, as were many new inventions, such as the steam locomotive and the long-distance telephone.
We will virtually visit this amazing event with one of the Village's favorite presenters, Linda Loveland Reid. Her Power Point show will cover many more aspects of this incredible world's fair.
