Sonoma County Joins Age-Friendly Movement
Along with communities all over the U.S. and the world, Sonoma County is joining the effort to provide a healthy, supportive environment that allows people of all ages to enjoy full and meaningful lives. The organization Aging Together Sonoma County is working to implement the Age-Friendly Initiative, a program that guides cities in becoming age-friendly. An age-friendly community encourages, supports, and advocates for older people in a number of key ways, with the cooperation of health care providers, local businesses, and volunteer organizations. Among its goals, Age-Friendly Sonoma County hopes to promote active aging, to enable people of all ages to achieve physical, social, and emotional well-being, to help meet the housing, transportation, healthcare, and educational needs of older adults, and to encourage connections between generations.
