With social connections and well-being in mind, we offer many opportunities for members, volunteers, and the public to join us in various activities. These events, interest groups initiated by members, monthly meetings, and potlucks allow for participation in a vibrant and caring community, which can help avoid isolation and to maintain your physical and/or mental health.
We offer a wide range of programs, of only a few mentioned below, and we are always interested in hearing from you about what more we can do.
• Tuesday Walking Group
Weekly Tuesday mornings, we meet to have fun, great conversations, and exercise while exploring neighborhoods and gardens, or walking across the river. Everyone welcome.
• The Joy of Writing
Our life stories and legacies are unique and important both individually and as a community. We explore ways to preserve, celebrate, and honor our experiences. Tell your story using writing, video, and creative projects. We work together to create a setting which can inspire participants to celebrate their life stories and remember long forgotten details.
Hosted by Marc Aaron Johnson, a personal family historian. He also facilitates cognitive exercise, discussion, and general interest groups for older adults. Marc is a 12-year member of the Association of Personal Historians.
• Village Gardening Group
Join our monthly gardening interest group and brown bag lunch, meeting in each other’s gardens. This is not about having a showplace, but about seeking suggestions, new ideas, and having fun.
• Village Game Night for members and volunteers
Join us for a potluck dessert and game night. Bring a favorite game and something to drink if you wish. On July 10 we had our first Village Game Night, with lots of laughter, good conversation, and yummy desserts while playing “Mexican Train.”
• Bocce Ball
Join us for our monthly game at Leghorn Park. No experience necessary, come learn how much fun Italian lawn bowling can be.
• Village Music Group
Bring your voice and have fun at this monthly gathering. We’ll try many kinds of music –and have a lot of fun! No prior experience or talent necessary, just a love of making music.
• Book Club
Join us as we discuss a different book each month as we sit together in a casual forum these varied literary works.
• Potluck Gathering for Village members and volunteers
A time to get to know each other better, share good food, and have fun. This monthly gather continues to have a “conversation café” as part of our program.
